As illustrated by the essay, there are many risks of servicing only a singular market with one product or service that has been attributed to placing all of a firms proverbial eggs in a single basket. This victory called for a solemnization and they killed the Bull of Heaven for the celebration. He later learned that you cannot get everything you are looking for in life. He realized upon creation of man, the gods let death be his share and hence life withheld in their own hands. However, it is worth noting that Gilgamesh fame survived the death of Enkidu because of his account of Siduris advice, his dandy building projects and what he was told about the great flood. GENESIS Genesis is a Greek word that means origin or birth. It is the first book of the Torah or Pentateuch. Genesis is also the first book of the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament. Torah is a Hebrew word for instructions bit Pentateuch is a Greek word for five scrolls. In regards to tradition, the Torah was dedicated to Moses by god. However, several scholars are of the opinion that Torah was composed from four different sources between 950 BCE and 500 BCE, which were later joined together around 450 BCE. The book of genesis is structured around ten toledot sections however, modern commentators see it in terms of a autochthonic history. The boo k of Genesis is an example of antiquarian history. That is, a type of literature telling of the first appearance of humans, the origins of culture, the stories of ancestors, cities and heroes. Similarities There are several similarities between the epic of Gilgamesh and the book of genesis. One of the similarities lies on the flood account. The first point of similarities was the fact that God chose a righteous man to build an ark because of an impending great flood. In both cases, animals of all kinds were to be on the ark and birds were used after the rains to determine if floods waters had subsidized. After the rains stop stopped, both arks settled on troop whereby Noahs Ark and Utnapishtims on Ararat and Nisir respectively. Evaluate the Decision Making Process - Assignment suitDespite the forth coming problems, an effective and true decision, which is taken at right time, may also saves m all of the important organizational resources (Ingram, 2010).According to the experts, the staple goal of the decision making process is to achieve some desired and set goals and objectives and avoid negative and poor consequences (Krehbiel, 2012). The firms managers always try to take a right decision at right time so that they can support the other organizational activities and thus giving a better sidetrack productivity. When any decision is taken in the organizational perspective than for sure it will help the organizational mangers but at the same time there can be some good or best decisions which not only support the organizational system but also add up to the efficiency of the organizational activities and the operations (Krehbiel, 2012).The process of decision making is a systematic progression which true (a)ly works in a step by step series. The process may starts with the recognition of the problem. This can be happen when the manager or any of workers may predict or forecast any possible problem or contingency in the very short run for the organization (Heckman & Crowston, 2011). Here it is not necessary that there will be a prediction of the problem rather the manger may happen to know about the problem when they are badly struck in it. The vituperative point is that the manger or the firm mya truly identify the problem in the situation. Many of the mangers may get confuse between the actual problem and its symptoms. In most of the situation, the symptoms are very clear but the mangers may not track the problem exactly. Therefore, at first step the realistic identification of the problem is very important (Heckman & Crowston, 2011).Now in this situation the managers must carefully analyze all the possible factors and the reasons, so that they may come to know about the differe nce between the symptoms and the actual problem

Rebekah Nathan's My Freshman Year Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Rebekah Nathans My Freshman Year - Essay ExampleThus leaves the profoundest question that the book infers Is it plausible for teachers and professors to yield the overabundant student culture The question then becomes, why would the professors of today want to influence student behavior and thinking From Rebekah Nathans research which steers clear of criticism, I see clearly leash main reasons for wanting to affect change in the minds of students one is the ignorance of world affairs and peoples the other is the materialism that marks modern American priorities and the third macrocosm the apparent lack of discipline and integrity in the to a greater extent honorable precepts of what a higher school of learning is for in the first place. Some of the more profound research that Rebekah Nathan conducted was her interviews with minority students in revealing the lack of knowledge American students have of worldliness and in relating with other people outside of the dominant culture. C omments made by American freshman students such as, Is Japan in China or Is it North Korea of South Korea that has a dictator and even, Where exactly is India kayoed international students (Nathan 84). In regards to friendships with people from other races, minorities were not so easily befriended by American students. A student from France noted, Friendship is very surface-defined here. It is easy to secure to know people, but the friendship is superficial. We wouldnt even call it a friendship. In France, when youre someones friend, youre their friend for life (Nathan 75). Many other examples from students around the world felt this elbow room too. One student was befuddled that nobody forever even asked him about the country in which he came from. I believe that American students need to reform in their interest, acceptance, and knowledge of people from around the world and to understand that America is not the center of the world.Another deterrent from students developing mo re substantial relationships appears to be because of technology and Americas strong views of independence and freedom. For example, many students communicate by data processor, even when they are in close proximity to each other television and computer gaming is a typical activity shared that does not provide much opportunity for interaction and, because everyone wants to be independent and free, students are finding it harder to overstretch to group related activities and causes. Rebekah Nathan portrays college to be both a rite of passage but essentially a jumping remove place for acquiring a future job. In Rebekah Nathans surveys and questioners it was only a select few individuals who stated their purpose for going to a university was to learn. The main reasons involved future jobs, relationships, social interaction and fun. This leads us to the question Rebekah Nathan asks in so many indirect ways, Why are students coming to universities in the first place More students are attending college then ever before a privilege once reserved for the elite is now made possible to all. More modern-day students need to work while in school in order to pay for college. Students time is limited and the debts wait at the end of college life with the hopes of landing the perfect job to pay off those debts. The reason for attending a university I understood from Rebekah Nathans notes

Are All Animals Created Equal Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Are All Animals Created Equal - Essay ExampleThe setting in which the animals work from moldiness be considered standpoint onward these animals are subjected to acts that are proven detrimental and harsh that will give rise to pain and pleasure (Singer 1989, p. 149). This provides that there must be a current understanding of the act being done towards them like slaughtering for consumption purposes and experimentation in the medical. These acts invariably highlight that humans are superior from other species and they fuddle the freedom to do such act since these animals are means to an end (Steinbock 1978, p. 253). The aforementioned condition shows that in order for equality to be achieved, there must be an elimination of suffering. However, Singer failed to consider that the conditions of suffering, pain and pleasure for animals is not really the same to that of humans since humans have an intrinsic capacity that animals do not have rational thinking (Steinbock 1978, p. 254). T his rational thinking gives way for humans to have a very utilitarian approach on animals (Singer 1989, p. 150). Utilitarianism tries to view that humans maximize the things present around them to achieve their needs and desires (Armstrong 2007, p. 2). Given this scenario, there is nothing that appears to be problematic since this only ensures that humans achieve and gather in what they need like food for them survive. However, humans, in most cases, failed to understand and appreciate the findings of modern science like the consumption of alternatives to animal meat like soja beans (Singer 1989, p. 152). Since they have failed to recognize the presence of the innovations in the food industry that can mitigate the necessity to slaughter animals, they constantly resort to a very voluptuary nature of things in which the problems rise. There will be constant lavishing of animal meat and it is considered moral for some individuals under a utilitarian perspective. This is indeed tru e(p) because this has been the convention of human beings for years. The maximization of the utilitarian approach allows them to use it for abuse and do not consider the effects of it.

These immigrants are people who imbibe into the country through other routes other than the official 33 interior checkpoints along the Mexican border, including those involved in illegal trade (Andreas, 2003).The other federal government agency dealing with cross-border issues is the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE), which lies in the United States Department of Homeland Security. This agency is responsible for identifying and dealing with security department weaknesses that affect national boundaries with other countries, the economy, transport and infrastructure. The ma in components of this agency are homeland security investigations, and enforcement and removal operations. Guiding

Response to McCloskey's Article On Being an Atheist Essay

Response to McCloskeys Article On Being an Atheist - try out ExampleIn this paper, a response is given to McCloskey by basin g the arguments to what has been covered in the philosophy of religion unit. McCloskey, in his article On being an Atheist presents a very strong counter argument against theist arguments about existence of a unequivocal perfect being referred to as God. According to him, theists hold on to arguments about existence of God as the fundamental proofs of his existence. The arguments do not certainly infer to proof of Gods existence nor do they provide a proof of why we exist. He actually claims that theists are sucked into the realms of religion not because of the basic proofs that exist but due to mere arguments. According to McCloskeys line of argument, it is possible to argue that God certainly does not exist. The world is so imperfect to be the engineering thrash of a perfect being. In fact, we can only conclude that God, if he ever exists, is an evil God since in that respect is more pain and suffering in the world than joy and happiness. Where is God when all the evil happens? Where was he not to control Hitler? Arguably, God may not exist if we take this line of thought. I fuck off always observed the unjustified pain and suffering that happen to the per se wrong people. Young babies who are flawless in the eyes of exacting Being God should certainly not suffer at least because they are innocent. Why cant God bring us adpressed to him by good deeds and not through pain and suffering as claimed by theists? Things would seem more rational. On the other hand, existence would leave to make any meaning if God did not exist. What if God made the universe the way it is with an ultimate purpose? To me it seems more logical than to claim his nonexistence McCloskey presents a very strong heretofore questionable argument about cosmology. According to him, it is possible to have a cause without cause. He infers that it is possible to ha ve the world, as we know it without a causative agent. The mere existence of the universe is not a justified reason enough to posit that there exists a cause behind creation. I quite agree with his argument since the existence of the universe is not a foolproof evidence of existence of a supreme being. However, I tend to agree more with the theists, not because there is foolproof evidence but because both atheists like McCloskey and the scientific giants have not yet provided exact proof of cause. I would rather live believing that there was God and die to find there was none, than to live as if he neer existed and died to find that he actually existed. According to Evans line of thought about cause for cause, existence of the universe would be both irrational and absurd if there were no cause for the entire perfectly tuned universe as it represents itself to humankind. Craig also shares the same arguments on his article The Absurdity of Life without God (Craig, 2008). All unearth ly beliefs nonplus an appreciable form of connection with a supreme being. Surprisingly, virtually all religious ideologies about supremacy of the creator share the same basics. Christians experience faith, miracles, healing, pain, and suffering among other connective experiences with God. McCloskey may have a point in his argument but his argument is somewhat one sided. I aptitude ask McCloskey one simple yet fundamental question what determines the discourse on the universe? Is it a collective contribution of every human

Development 1 - Essay Example1 Balanced growth (1953) The hypothesis of balanced growth was proposed by Ragnar Nurkse in 1953. This theory was framed on the fact that newly independent economies could not achieve faster stinting development due to the rapidity in basic good exports. The imported industrial commodities were the only alternatives which could have expanded the destroyed economies. In other words, the balanced growth or simultaneous enlargement of all industries was the around appropriate way to stimulate the economic growth of underdeveloped economies. At the same time, this type of growth necessitated the accumulation of large resources at one time. fit in to Nurkse (1953), poor developing economies were characterized by a large surplus of labour employed at zero marginal cost in the traditional area (cited in Hayami, Hayami and Godo, 135). Nurkses model failed to provide adequate alternatives for the development of newly independent economies. Take-off into susta ined growth (1956) Rostow (1956) defines Take-off into sustained growth model as, the interval during which the point of investment funds increases in such a way that real output per capita rises (cited in Crouzet, 153). He also proposes certain conditions for the application of this theory. Rostow says that the proportion of net investment to national income must rise from 5% to 10% in order to satisfy the terms of the theory. Although Rostow connected his theory with the events occurred in Great Britain and several other countries, the theorist could not get any support from the available quantitative data (153). faultfinding minimum effort thesis (1957) Harvey Leibenstein (1957 cited in Gupta, 176), in his Critical Minimum Effort thesis, says that initial stimulants to development must possess a critical minimum size in order to achieve sustained growth. He continues that change in the value of a set of variables causes the economic backwardness and it possesses a certain degre e of steadiness. Since the economy is subjected to frequent shocks, the actual value of the variables impart always be different from that of equilibrium values. Although these stimulants have the capacity to raise the per capita incomes, it is not possible in economically backward regions due to the weakness of the order of magnitude of these stimulants. 2 The export-oriented industrialization strategy was introduced as a technique to reframe the underdeveloped economies. The essence of the theory is that large scale production and thereby exports would enhance the economic growth of the country. Hence, developing countries too much depended on the exports of a few primary products in order to bridge the wider gap with advanced economies. Dijck, Linnemann and Verbruggen (3) tells that as a result of this strategy, more and more foreign investors were attracted towards the country so that these developing nations were compelled to arrange all favorable investment situations for the foreigners. It caused severe challenges to governments as they faced with huge difficulties in implementing the planned budgets and other policies. In addition, the governments lost huge amounts on possible receipts as a result of unfavorable incentive schemes. Similarly, the export-oriented industrialisation caused curtailment of labor wages and it led to political oppression. This strategy influenced the developing natio

Who are the nations who threaten our, Americas, standing in the world Research Paper

Who are the nations who threaten our, Americas, standing in the military man market place - inquiry Paper ExampleWhile the United States is still the tumidst economy in the world, it faces challenges from global competitors. China, Japan, India and Germany are all countries that have gained ground on the United States in recent years and continue to do so. China, in particular, has proved to be a looming threat. It pulled out of the global recession much sooner than did the United States, ascribable to a myriad of circumstanceors. Moreover, the people of China still lag behind the rest of the world in terms of wealth, therefore China is reliant upon the world market for its process. This is the reason why China has carried an enormous trade balance with the United States. Japan, once a large threat, is now much less of one, as China has surpassed it in recent months in terms of the size of the economy, and Japan continues to have troubles due to the recent disasters. India is gr owing as well, and, like China, has a paradox in that its citizenry is not as prosperous as more developed countries. Germany, meanwhile, probably presents the least threat of all the countries examined here, as it has grown in recent months, but this growth has been driven by its domestic sector, not the world market. China While the United States and most of the world remain involved in the worst economic slowdown in decades, China remains relatively unscathed. In fact, it posted a gross domestic product growth rate of 7.1% for the first half of 2009, and its economy expanded by 10% in 2010 (China Economy Hums Along as U.S. Remains convoluted in Recession). ... overseas investments (Ford), and the fact that Chinese banks are controlled by the Chinese government, which eases the flow of lending (China Economy Hums Along as U.S. Remains Mired in Recession). However, one of the most important factors that sets China apart is its economic stimulus plan (Reyes), that was more success ful than the U.S.s similar stimulus plan, in large part because China did not have the existing debt that the United States did prior to enacting the stimulus plan (Lau). The example set by the Chinese major power be able to be emulated by the United States and other countries, however, since China has a unique set of circumstances, it is improbable that other countries can duplicate its success. At any rate, China seems poised to bring the rest of the world out of recession, when, in prior recessions, the United States has led the way (Schwartz). The great untapped electromotive force in Chinese domestic consumption are the untaught areas, whose consumption lag behind urban areas by 10 years (Reyes). This, in large part, is because of the great income disparity between the two sectors, and because rural residents are compelled to save because of the current lack of a reliable social security system and the fact that over 99% of rural residents do not have health insurance (Reyes ). Chinas contributions to insurance and pensions should therefore help in increasing the ability of the rural residents to consume. This increase in consumption will, in turn, offset the decrease in exports and presumably make China less dependent on the export market, thereby stabilizing Chinas economy (Reyes). Indeed, China is currently entering a period where they are poised to increase their consumption levels substantially, purchasing their first automobiles and first commercially

Ethics and Sustainability Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Ethics and Sustainability - Essay ExampleOne of the ethical discussions on sustainability is the promotion of imitation products through the widespread application of genetic engineering in plants and animals, and creation of man-made ecosystem to alter the deteriorating ecological balance.Artificial is defined as formulation of something based on indispensable phenomenon but is completely lacks the intrinsic value of what is vivid. Conservative thinkers postulate that incorporating artificial synopsis on environmental context of use is morally unjustified because it violates the natural mechanism of things, and in religious context, it defiles the Gods creation. Conversely, radical thinkers posit that the integration of artificial schema in the environment is morally permissible because it helps in the prolongation and preservation of life, especially that the world is facing a huge problems on natural resources continuous supplies.Advocators Advocators of anti-artificial sche ma argue that the promotion of artificial products necessitates the used of modern technology, and if certain technology is not yet available, then new technology must be invented first for the realisation of a item artificial products. The problems with this is that most of the time, the actualisation artificial schema post threats on the natural resources because, one, a new technology must be applied to natural things before it green goddess be proven, and if the technology fails, new technologies will be created, which means that the threat on environment will also increase two, the artificial procedures of preserving life in the expense of our natural environment is becoming vicious because of the belief that preservation of life is justified in any given context, wherein our natural environment suffers greatly from this belief because the environment is only seen as resource that must be utilised for the nourishment of life. On the other hand, proponents of artificial schem a conjecture that natural resources is finite and limited, hence the need to manufacture ersatz products in the expense and out of natural resources is permissible because through this, the continually increase demand for basic human needs will be resolved, as well as, the environment will be preserved. Radical thinkers argue that modern technologies whitethorn have repercussions but its benefits are countless. They even stress out that application of artificial schema with the aid of technology is the only way humanity can preserve its environment and its people.Today the world is embracing the artificiality of things foods products are being engineered, while natural environment are being photocopied such as lagoon, rainforest, and so on to prevent the continuous deterioration of the environment, and to preserve its present status. Thus our modern advancements and artificial schemes have created major environmental positive consequences, as well as, risks that stake the lives an d well-being not only

This experiment is designed Essay Example for Free

This experiment is designed EssayThis is experiment is designed to approximate i , the coefficient of clangour, for two surfaces. We used a piece of base hit on the bottom of a wooden balk on a wooden table. Assumptions To undertake this experiment, first I developed an equation allowing a direct line to be plotted from our results. This will test if Coulombs fair play is correct. The main assumptions made in this experiment atomic number 18 1. Acceleration is constant 2. The strings are light and inextensible, and the cylinder block is light and smooth 3. g, gravity is 9. 8 4. Coulombs law is correct 5.There is no air resistance 6. F=ma These assumptions restrain different weights in concerning our results. Some are more likely to affect our results, whilst others will only have a small effect. Assumption How gruelling the effect is on results Acceleration is constant This will have a moderate effect on the results. We ignore see that the acceleration is not constant . This is because friction does change slightly with velocity, and we are ignoring air resistance Light, inextensible strings In fact the strings do stretch slightly, and do have a small weight. This will affect the results as forces will not be constant during the experiment, and in that respectfore produce irregular acceleration. Light, smooth pulley This will affect the results in the aforementioned(prenominal) way as above. We attempted to use the smoothest pulley available, but obviously it can never be perfectly smooth. That the pulley has flowerpot does not affect our results, as we are not dependent on the pulleys mass for our results. Gravity is 9. 8 This will introduce a systematic fallacy into our calculations, but as we will use this assumption for both the results and the object lesson, it will not give rise a difference for our experiment.Coulombs law is correct This will make a big difference to our results. By assuming that , our calculations are fairly simple. However, this linear model is incorrect. This will affect our results considerably, and may results in a weave being plotted from our results instead of a straight line. No air resistance This will have a mild effect on the results. Because the block of wood and the weights are fairly small, the effects of air resistance are negligible. However there will be a small effect, which again may force the results into a curve rather than a straight line. This assumption will not impact our results very much at all. For macroscopic objects, such(prenominal) as we are dealing with, this law is a very good model. However if we were to repeat the experiment using single atoms for the objects, this would be a unspeakable model. To help overcome these systematic misapprehensions, we insured that we had the smoothest pulley, and that the surfaces that we used were consistent. In other words, that the table was the same roughness all the way along it, and that the rubber was the same all over. Manipulating the model When m2 is released m1 accelerates. These two objects can be looked at separately. Using . (1) (2) (3) Using (Coulombs Law) (4) Substituting equation 4 into equation 1 Substituting into equation 3 (5) Assuming constant acceleration (see note above) As Substituting into equation 5 The two variables will be m1 and t. By putting , we can cancel m2 from the equation. Setting k to be 1022g (this is the lowest weight for which it will still move) . This is because otherwise m2 hits the floor. .. 1031. 8 should be 9. 8*1022 This allows us to plot a graph with m1 on the x-axis, and on the y-axis.Comparing the above equation with shows us that the gradient should be , and the y-intercept should be 0. 673. 6. 533333333333333333 Conducting the experiment Again, this diagram shows the layout of the experiment. m2 weighs more than m1. When m2 is released m1 accelerates. In my model I assumed that this acceleration is constant. However in reality this is not true. As mentio ned previously, this will affect my results. The weight of m1 presses down on the table as the block accelerates. This causes frictional resistance between the block and the bottom of the table. The coefficient of friction between the rubber on the bottom of the block and the table is denoted by ?. By measuring the time taken to move over a specified distance, and by knowing the weight of the two masses it is possible to calculate ?. quest on from the assumptions above, it is possible to attempt to minimise the effects of these modelling approximations. For instance, if it were possible to ensure constant acceleration then doing this would reduce errors, and make the results more accurate. 1. Ensuring that the pulley was as smooth as possible. 2. Ensuring that the table was of equal roughness all the way along it.3. Making sure that there is no wind or draughts on the block. 4. Making sure that the string is as inextensible as possible. Variation in experimental results As in every experiment, there is variation in the results. This is because in, real life, there are more than two variables changing. For example, random draughts, inaccuracy in timing, inaccuracy in measuring distance, inaccurate weights and differences in the table surface. The error bars on the graph show this error, with the central line showing an average. Comparison between experimental data and predictions of the modelThe predictions of the model give a line of the equation y = -1. 37x + 13. 8. This gives ? to be 1. 14. This is a lot bigger than our original estimate. In addition, 13. 8 is approximately twice as big as 6. 53. This shows that our experiment does not follow our original model. This is probably due to our assumption that Coulombs Law is true. This model will produce a straight line. Our results show a subtle curvature, implying a non-linear relationship between F and ? r. Although random variation could have created this curve, it seems that it is due to the inaccurate mode l of Coulombs Law.If the experiment had been based on a non-linear law then a different set of equations would have been derived which would result in a linear function being plotted. Revision of the process To mend the experiment, it would be cleanse to use light gates to improve accuracy for timing. On the results that we collected, the higher speeds resulted in wider error bounds and thus less accuracy. This is because it was a lot harder to accurately measure these fast times. Measuring the distances we were moving over more accurately would also increase accuracy, as would more accurate step of mass. However, accuracy is not the main issue in this experiment. For this experiment, it seems that our model is incorrect, rather than the results. To improve this experiment, our assumptions need to be changed. Most assumptions are fine, but the assumption of Coulombs law is very inaccurate. This assumption of a linear relationship forced our results into a curve. To achieve a more meaningful analysis of these results, we need a better model on which to compare them. However, more accurate models for friction are much more complex and far less simple to use.

A History of Melody Essay Example for Free

A History of Melody EssayThe violin emerged from a primitive musical bow, normally an arched stick with a string stretched taut between the two ends (Hughes, 2008). The string is divided by a loop or a dyad (Thinkquest, 1999). The start bridge was used to add to the instruments resonance when the string was vibrated, and strings were attached across suitable receptacles (Hughes, 2008). These resonance enhancers took many a(prenominal) forms-tortoise shells, coconut, calabash, wooden boxes and even wild boar bladders (Thinkquest, 1999), thrust tightly between the strings and the bow (Thinkquest, 1999). Also to enhance the resonance of the bow, the instrument was held before the mouth (Thinkquest, 1999). The violin probably came to Europe or so the 9th century, mostly originating from Asia (Thinkquest, 1999). It took the evolutionary process of the violin about 450 days to bring the violin to its present form. This only shows the long years of experience needed by the makers of the stringed instrument (Thinkquest, 1999). The use of a bow to draw across the strings followed, probably imported into Europe from Asia by Arab travellers (Hughes, 2008).The evolution of the violin was slow. It took until the middle Ages for a version of the zither, a popular and older instrument, to evolve into the vielle, which saw the instrument being held against the shoulder. This differentiated it from the zither, as the latter was held across the knees (Hughes, 2008). As time went on, the archetype one string grew to four, and for a time, five strings (Hughes, 2008). Fashionable until the 16th century, the vielle was changed with the small wooden ribs used in similar wooden plucked instruments replaced by the tailpiece and bridge (Hughes, 2008).Violin 2 By the time of the Renaissance, the viol (a bowed stringed instrument chiefly of the 16th and 17th centuries made in treble, alto, tenor, and bass sizes and distinguished from members of the violin family especially in having a deep body, a flat back, sloping shoulders, usually six strings, a fretted fingerboard, and a low-arched bridge (Merriam-Webster, 2008), was being used, the first having a hole adding resonance and tone to the instrument (Hughes, 2008).It was a short time that the viol evolved into the viola da gamba (a bass member of the viol family having a range approximating the cello (Merriam-Webster, 2008), which was played between the knees of the thespian, and the viola de braccio held against the shoulder. The modern shape of the violin was evolved from the second version of the instrument (Hughes, 2008). The Violin evolved form many different instruments, including the Rebob, the Rebec, Lira da Braccio and the Renaissance fiddle. The violin today, the new violin was not used until 1630 in Italy (Berkeley, 2008).The evolution of the modern violin appears to devote been completed in Italy with the most celebrated violin maker Andrea Amati at Cremona, providing 24 violins, six viol as and eight cellos for the French King Charles IX in 1560 (Hughes, 2008). Another famous violin maker, Antonio Stradivarius, joined the Amati tutor in the latter half of the 6th century (Hughes, 2008). The violins refinery As stated earlier in the paper, that apart from the Arab travellers influence had an on the violin, there is no current fact on who invented the violin or a stringed instrument that is played with a bow (Hughes, 2008).Some of the theories place the invention of the violin at dear about 1520 A. D. wherein the violin is included in the Gaudenzio Ferrari painting The Madonna of the Orange Trees (cited in Berkeley, 2008). Violin 3 provided the violin emerged in Italy in the early 1500s and seems to affirm developed from two medieval bowed instruments-the fiddle, also called the viele or fiedel, and the rebec-and from the Renaissance lira de braccio (a violin-like instrument with off the finger drone strings (Rosenblum, 2007). Also cogitate to the violin, exce pt not direct ancestors, is the six-string fretted viol. The viol appeared in Europe before the violin and existed with it side by side for about 200 hundred years (Rosenblum, 2007). In the early 1600s, however, the violin gained prestige through its use in operas such as Orfeo(1607) by Italian composer Claudio Monteverdi, and through the French King Louis long dozen band of musicians, the 24 violons de roi (the Kings 24 violins, formed in 1626). This growth in stature continued throughout the Baroque period (1600-1750) in the whole kit and caboodle of many notable composer-performers.Among them were the Italians Ar sensgelo Corelli, Antonio Vivaldi and Giuseppe Tartini and the Germanys Heinrich Biber, Georg Philipp Teleman and Johann Sebastian Bach (Rosenblum, 2007). The Craftsmen The earliest important violin makers were from Northern Italy, Gasparo da Salo (1540-1609) and Giovanni Maggini (1579-1630) from Brescia and Andrea Amati (1525-1611) from Cremona. The craft of violin mak ing reached its height in the 17th and 18th centuries in the workshops of the Italians Antonio Stradivarius (1644-1737) and Giuseppe Guarneri (1698-1744) from Cremona and the Austrian Jacob Stainer (1617-1638) (Rosenblum, 2007).Violin 4 Gasparo da Salo (1542-1609) The founder of the Brescian enlighten of violin makers, Gasparo Bertlotti, or Gasparo da Salo, was a dedicated craftsman and instrument maker. He was at a time credited with the claim of having developed the violin in the shape we know today. Although his claims have been disproved, his instruments are nevertheless admired and venerated (Smithsonian, 2008). Gasparos violas are considered finer than his violins and probably were more numerous (Smithsonian, 2008).His viola da gambas were converted to violincellos and are much esteemed, and some of his six-stringed bass viols have been remounted as three and four stringed double basses. Twenty instruments have been recorded (Smithsonian, 2008). Giovanni Paolo Maggini (1579 -1630) An apprentice of Gasparo da Salo, he acquired a thorough knowledge of the woods available to him (Smithsonian, 2008). Maggini made his make mark and as a master, his own techniques of craftsmanship. He frequently experimented to improve tone quality for his pieces and perfect his construction methods (Smithsonian, 2008).Many of the instruments made by Maggini at the twilight of his career are considered his finest work. These works are known for the quality of the woods and unusually large backbreaking holes as well as for their unusually mellow tones (Smithsonian, 2008). Andrea Amati (1525-1611) The founder of the great Cremona school of violin making, Amati focused on violins and was making viols and rebecs. Instruments dated after 1584 are said to be the works of his sons Antonio and Hieronymus (Smithsonian, 2008). Violin 5It is claimed that he made 24 violins, 6 violas and 8 cellos for the French king Charles IX for use at the court at Versailles (Smithsonian, 2008). A few of these instruments survive to this day (Smithsonian, 2008). Antonio Stradivarius (1644-1734) Stradivarius interpretation of geometry and visualise served as a conceptual model for violin makers for more than 200 years (Smithsonian, 2008). Stradivarius also made harps, guitars, violas and cellos- more than 1,100 instruments by current estimate (Smithsonian, 2008). virtually 650 of these instruments survive today (Smithsonian, 2008). Bartolomeo Giuseppe Guarneri (1698-1744) Guarneri is considered the most illustrious member of this violin making family. The fifth and last member of the family, he is known more as Joseph Guarnerius del Gesu. Guarnerius is the Latin form of the family name and Joseph the Hebrew form of Giuseppe (Smithsonian, 2008). The estimate of his total production is not more than 250 violins no evidence suggests that he made more (Smithsonian, 2008). But at least one violoncello and some violas are attributed to him.The outline of his violins, with slight mo difications, is founded on instruments of Stradivarius (Smithsonian, 2008). Stradivarius and Guarnerius are ranked as among the greatest violin makers, but fine violinists prefer Guarnerius over Stradivarius (Smithsonian, 2008). Whatever the history or whoever the maker of the violin, we all must appreciate the efforts of these individuals who in one way or some other contributed to the making of the violin. All these men have given much by way of continuously honing the instrument as it is known and enjoyed today by hemorrhoid of people.Violin 6 Personal Reflection The violin represents probably on of the more versatile, elegant and mysterious of the instruments that we have today. The seeming smallness of the instrument sanely does not tell of the long and painstaking process that went into its refinement and development. The reason that I centred the paper on this instrument is just for those following reasons. The instrument for me seems to just waft its notes and sounds over the listeners ears at just the right moments. They are, I believe, different from the wind pieces such as the trumpet and the saxophone. These pieces produce these shrill notes that sometimes lead to be irritable if you are not an admirer for the kind of music. But the violin just seems to play its notes in a mellow and smooth sound. It sometimes will want to lull to sleep at times. Im a fan of the violin. For me, there is just no instrument just like it in sound and depth and quality of sound. Yes, there are many pieces out there that seem to sound alike, but cant seem to touch the position of the violin.I cant imagine an orchestra without a violin in the strings section. It would be incomplete without it. The sound would be really different than the violins in it. And the violin can cross over to different genres of music, from classical to country to pop to jazz and to others, without a tad of difficulty. Thats another thing I like about this instrument, its real versatile. It c an just blend in with the various styles of music that you put it with and it will perform handsomely, a trait not all instruments can bobble of.What we can do now is just relax at every playing of the violin, just to enjoy the elegant sound of the instrument as the musician begins to play and begins to once again weave its magic over its listeners.ReferenceBerkeley.
